Georgia native Gavin Adcock gets candid about ambition, sacrifice and the illusion that the grass is always greener on “Shoes,” the latest release from his forthcoming album The Day I Hang It Up.
For Gavin Adcock, the view from the top isn't always what it seems. The Georgia native arrives today with “Shoes,” a vulnerable new song that turns the spotlight inward, challenging the idea that achieving the dream automatically means finding happiness on the other side. Sometimes, the people we believe have it all are looking over the fence wishing they could walk in our shoes, too. “‘Shoes’ is about how everybody looks in the mirror and for some reason thinks their life isn’t good enough. They look at other people and think the grass is greener on the other side,” Adcock shares. “It’s a reminder for everybody that we’ve only got one life. Live it. Love it. Make the best out of it!”

Written by Adcock and Jon Michael McKinnon, “Shoes” peels back the layers of a rapidly ascending career, confronting the sacrifices that can come with chasing success—and the moments that can quietly slip away while you're busy trying to make the dream a reality.
The song arrives as the latest preview of Adcock’s third studio album in three years, The Day I Hang It Up, due October 2 via Thrivin Here Records/Warner Records Nashville. With American Songwriter calling him a “modern-day outlaw” building a career reminiscent of Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, Adcock has established himself as one of country music's most distinctive new voices. His music has amassed more than 2.4 billion career streams to date, fueled by a combination of gritty songwriting, restless energy and an unmistakably Southern point of view.
Now, that momentum is moving to the road. Adcock's headlining The Day I Hang It Up Tour is currently underway, bringing a rotating lineup of special guests—including Pecos & The Rooftops, Corey Kent, Tyler Nance, Jake Worthington, The Creekers, Braxton Keith and Mack Geiger—to audiences across 30 cities. The live experience has become a defining part of Adcock's rise, with MusicRow describing his performances as “rowdy” and “high-octane.” The singer-songwriter has already sold out venues on multiple headline runs, including the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour Presents: Gavin Adcock, Actin’ Up Again (Again) Tour and Need To Tour. He also joined Morgan Wallen for select dates during Wallen's 2025 I'm The Problem Tour and 2026 Still The Problem Tour, earning explosive audience reactions along the way. But long before the sold-out rooms and billions of streams, Adcock was simply a Georgia kid with a guitar, a football dream and a family cattle farm. Born and raised in Watkinsville, Georgia, Adcock played football at Georgia Southern University and grew up working on his family's cattle farm. He once dreamed of riding bulls in the PBR and began writing songs while still in high school.
Then, in the spring of 2021, a torn knee suffered while playing football gave him unexpected time to pursue another passion. During his recovery, Adcock recorded and released his first original single. What followed was a rapid ascent. Adcock has since amassed more than 2 billion global streams across songs including the RIAA Platinum-certified “A Cigarette” and Gold-certified “Run Your Mouth,” “Deep End” and “Four Leaf Clover,” among others.
His album Actin’ Up Again became the largest major-label country debut from a solo male artist released in 2024 and the year's top-streaming major-label debut across the genre. Less than a year later, Own Worst Enemy, released August 15, 2025, more than doubled his previous streaming record, generating more than 25 million first-week U.S. streams.
