Lee Brice is turning heartbreak into a barroom singalong with “Me And Whiskey,” the soulful new track from his forthcoming album Sunriser (All-Nighter), out now via Curb Records.
Written by Brice, Matt Alderman and Nate Kenyon and produced by Brice alongside Cody LaBelle and Jerrod Niemann, “Me And Whiskey” puts a bittersweet spin on the familiar childhood rhyme “Sitting in a Tree.” But where the original celebrates young love, Brice’s version finds a man sitting alone at a bar after losing the person he loves, turning to whiskey for company.
The result is quintessential Lee Brice: clever, vulnerable and emotionally heavy without losing the grit and soul that have defined his career. “Me And Whiskey” transforms a familiar phrase into a portrait of loneliness, heartbreak and the desperate ways people try to fill an empty space.
The song arrives ahead of Sunriser (All-Nighter), Brice’s sprawling 32-song expanded edition of his sixth studio album, Sunriser, due Oct. 2. The ambitious collection pays tribute to the people who greet the day before sunrise—from blue-collar workers finishing overnight shifts to exhausted parents and the friends who stay up until morning simply because they aren't ready for the night to end.
