Dolly Parton is bringing her remarkable life story to Broadway. The country icon has announced that DOLLY: A True Original Musical will begin preview performances on Dec. 7 at New York City's historic St. James Theatre, with its official opening night set for Jan. 19, 2027 — a fitting celebration on Parton's 81st birthday.

Featuring a score packed with timeless classics including "Jolene," "I Will Always Love You," "Coat of Many Colors," and "9 to 5," alongside brand-new songs written specifically for the production, the musical promises an intimate look at the journey behind one of music's most enduring legends. Parton co-wrote the book with two-time Emmy Award winner Maria S. Schlatter, while Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher directs the production.

"My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really!" Parton said in a statement, teasing a production filled with spectacular sets, costumes, choreography, and music. Sher added that while audiences around the world adore Parton, the show reveals "the unfiltered story in her own words," proving that "rhinestones were never her whole story."

Following a sold-out world premiere in Nashville that became the most successful production in the history of Belmont University's Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, the Broadway production has been further refined ahead of its New York debut.

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning July 10, with fan and Capital One pre-sales launching ahead of the public on-sale. With Parton's legendary catalog, a celebrated creative team, and one of Broadway's biggest icons at its center, DOLLY: A True Original Musical is shaping up to be one of the theater season's most anticipated productions.
