Charleston’s hometown hero, Darius Rucker, is returning to the Holy City for a one-night-only event: the Darius Rucker Big Band Gala, presented by Explore Charleston, on Tuesday, April 7 at the Gaillard Center. This special performance offers fans a rare chance to see Rucker in an intimate, elevated concert setting, backed by the Robert Lewis Orchestra, conducted by Peter Graves, for an unforgettable evening of big band magic.

A portion of the night’s proceeds will support the CMA Foundation’s music education programs in Charleston County Schools and the Carolyn G. Rucker Nursing Scholarship at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, continuing Rucker’s enduring commitment to giving back to the community that shaped him.

“These big band shows are some of my favorite nights,” Rucker shares. “It’s the only time I get to perform so many of the standards we all grew up listening to, with the backing of such an incredible orchestra. And it’s all to benefit incredible non-profit work locally.”

Tickets for the gala go on sale Friday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. via GaillardCenter.org, with prices ranging from $50 to $250. All tickets are non-transferable and will be delivered electronically 48 hours before the show.

Rucker’s music career is legendary. He first rose to multi-Platinum fame as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of GRAMMY Award-winning Hootie & the Blowfish, whose debut album Cracked Rear View remains among the top 10 best-selling studio albums of all time. Since launching his country career in 2008, Rucker has earned four No. 1 albums on the Billboard Country chart, 10 No. 1 singles, and 11 Gold, Platinum, or multi-Platinum-certified hits. He became a Grand Ole Opry member in 2012 and won his third career GRAMMY Award in 2014 for Best Solo Country Performance with his Diamond-certified “Wagon Wheel.” His latest album, Carolyn’s Boy, is available now, alongside his New York Times bestselling memoir, Life’s Too Short (Dey Street, 2024).

Beyond the stage, Rucker is a dedicated philanthropist. He co-chaired the capital campaign that raised $150 million to build the new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in Charleston and has contributed over $5.1 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through his annual Darius & Friends benefit concert and golf tournament. Through the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, he has supported over 200 charitable initiatives, including public education and junior golf programs in South Carolina. He also serves as National Chair for the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, Tenn.

A sports enthusiast, Rucker has his own Darius Rucker Collection via Fanatics, spanning NFL, MLB, NHL, and NCAA apparel, and is involved with Music City Baseball to bring MLB to Tennessee, alongside his partnership with MGC Sports & Entertainment.

The Darius Rucker Big Band Gala promises a night of music, nostalgia, and community impact—a celebration of Charleston’s favorite son at one of the city’s premier venues.
