There’s a particular kind of ache that lingers after a relationship ends—the quiet moments, the unspoken regrets, the emotional weight that seems to press down on your chest. Nashville-based country artist Andrew Mitch captures that feeling with striking honesty in his latest single, “baggage,” set for release on February 27.
A cinematic country-folk ballad, “baggage” moves fluidly between intimate, stripped-down passages and sweeping orchestral arrangements, mirroring the emotional highs and lows that follow a breakup. Mitch co-wrote the track with Jonathan Johnston, Eitan Snyder, and Drew Rizzuto, and produced it himself, crafting a sonic landscape that is both tender and intensely expressive.
“I’ve always loved the ballad-like feel of country-folk music, as well as the excitement and drama of orchestral and cinematic music,” Mitch says. “So I combined them on this track.”
The song’s instrumentation adds depth to its emotional narrative. James Paul Mitchell’s banjo and dobro textures complement the guitar’s intimacy, while the dynamic shifts to fuller orchestral sections convey the overwhelming weight of lingering feelings. Mixed by Bryan Cook, whose work spans artists like Lainey Wilson, One Republic, Steven Wilson Jr., and U2, the track’s production emphasizes both vulnerability and cinematic scope.
“I think everyone can relate to the weight you carry after any sort of relationship ends,” Mitch adds. “I wrote this song hoping to embody what that really feels like in your chest. Heavy. There are ups, there are downs, and it’s a lot to hold. Hopefully it helps someone zone out and have a good cry. I know I did.”
Mitch’s journey into music has always been deeply personal. Raised in Steubenville, Ohio, he taught himself to sing and play instruments through church and youth group, later turning down multiple graduate programs in biochemistry to pursue music full-time in Nashville in 2021. His breakout single, “all in my head,” debuted on the US iTunes Country Top 100 in 2023, sparking viral fan support that funded his debut project, “feeling outside the lines,” in 2024. Since then, Mitch has released a string of emotionally raw songs and EPs, including “back home boy”, “unapologetic,” and the deluxe “still feeling outside the lines”, steadily growing a devoted following.
Entering 2026, Mitch shifts into a new artistic chapter, embracing cinematic country-folk that leans into atmospheric production and expansive storytelling. With “baggage,” he delivers a song that is as much about personal catharsis as it is about shared human experience—a reflection on love, loss, and the emotional weight we all carry.
“Baggage” will be available on all streaming platforms starting February 27, 2026.
